VIOLIN / CELLO DUO
Liba Shacht and John Sharp
Praised as “an absolutely superb cellist” by the Chicago Tribune, John Sharp is the principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a top prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky International Cello Competition.
Upon the recommendation of Isaac Stern, violinist Liba Shacht made her New York City debut to glowing reviews: “Miss Shacht delights in her nimble technique, and virtuosic display pieces...present few obstacles,” wrote The New York Times.
John and Liba met playing chamber music at the Marlboro Music Festival and married in 1987. They perform frequently as a duo and in collaboration with other musicians. John and Liba have performed on WFMT, the Rush Hour Concerts, the Norton Concert Series, the Pilgrim Chamber Players series, the opening concert of the Chamber Music Society of Louisville series, and the Ars Viva festival in La Turbie, France. Most recently they have played at Baylor University, St. Olaf College, the Schubert Club Chamber Music Series in St. Paul, Minnesota, and in chamber music performances in Malaga, Spain. Upcoming performances include a guest chamber music recital at the Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music, as well as a chamber music performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
